Professional Copywriter Tips: The Notepad and Pen

notepadHere’s a word of advice to all professional copywriters: make sure you are armed with a notepad and pen at all times.

It seems simple really. But let’s face it: inspiration often strikes when you least expect it, so it’s best to be prepared.

Professional copywriter tips

As a professional copywriter, I’m never more than 10 feet away from a memo pad at any given time.

The only exception to this rule is when I go swimming. I have considered buying a waterproof pen – though that might be taking things too far.

Director James Cameron famously conceived the idea for The Terminator during a fevered night’s sleep. Had Cameron failed to place a notepad on his night stand, perhaps he’d be flipping burgers today.

So the moral of this story is simple: if you are a professional copywriter, make sure you are armed and dangerous at all times.

As a Journalist student i fully appreciate the importance of carrying a notepad and pen at all times. If Columbo did it, then you should too!

Time to get serious now. Time to open up to you guys. I made a mistake today, a real bad mistake. Something so horrible that it doesn’t even bear thinking about.

I have to get it off my chest though, I can’t go on living like this.

Here we go: I’ve just been to a client meeting and I forgot my notepad and pen. It was a slip, that’s all. A little backwards step, nothing to be worried about. I won’t let it happen again, honest I won’t.

From now on, I’ll be good. From now on, I’ll pratise what I preach.

There I said it. I feel better now.

Thanks, you’re a real great listener.

Roald Dahl said that he always carried a pen around with him. Famously, his idea for Willy Wonker was scribbled down on a napkin after a tasty chocolate feast! Couldn’t agree more Matt
